Frequently Asked Questions

Click the questions below for the answer to questions frequently asked about what we offer at Basement Concepts.

Do you attain permits?

Yes, an electrical permit is always required. Building permits depend on your local building departments requirements.

Do you provide a total turnkey finish?

Yes, we finish to move in condition along with flooring, trim, paint etc.

Do we finish other peoples work?

No. We do not put our name on other peoples work as the quality and safety cannot be guaranteed.

Do you provide a guaranteed price?

Yes, we provide a guaranteed price to the penny in our contracts. Changes and additions by the owner will obviously add to the cost and are billed separately and paid for upon completion.

Do we use sub contractors?

Yes. We use sub contractors and have full time employees as well. Typically we sub contract plumbing and electrical work to our regular licensed professionals.

Do we finish basements within a specified time frame?

Yes. Our contracts come with a written completion timeframe. Occasionaly custom built items such as cabinetry and exotic flooring can extend timeframes as we have no control over that.

Do you use metal or wood studs?

We use wood studs for framing of walls and steel for bulkheads. Metal studs are not recommended for exterior walls as screw holes will show through over time due to external cold temperatures. Metal studs retain the cold on exterior walls much greater than wood even if insulated.

Do your employees and your sub contractors carry all the necessary licenses?

Yes. We are a licensed renovator with the city of Barrie and carry Two million dollars liability insurance as well as WSIB insurance. All of our sub contractors must carry the same.

Do we fix cracks and leaks in walls?

Yes. We will not finish a basement until these issues have been addressed. We use a professional company that specializes in these matters.

Do we provide estimates for insurance purposes?

Yes. We charge $200 for an insurance estimate.

Do we allow clients to choose their own fixtures, carpet and tile?

Yes. We use high quality bathroom fixtures standard but if a client wants to upgrade that can be done. We provide samples and direct clients to our local suppliers to pick out their flooring typically carpet and tile.

We will install wood laminate floors in basements only
